Since posting about the Home Office “Go Home or Face Arrest” vans:
1. I have had a piece on the subject in the Observer, Britain’s oldest Sunday newspaper on a page with Tony Blair trailed on the cover of the newspaper.
2. Ellen Wilkinson School have had their best ever A-level results and asked me as a local figure to present certificates and speak to girls about my own educational trajectory at their annual prize-giving which I look forward to.
3. I’ve put my name forward for the Labour party’s internal candidate selection for the Conservative-held seat of Ealing, Central and Acton, as a local member with some national profile. See my separate site about this by clicking here. I’ve been warned that the next 6 and a bit weeks will be hell so wish me luck (!)

Rupa, I am a local parent in your would-be constituency and have been in touch with a number of other parents in the area. We are concerned about religious discrimination at our local secondary school – Twyford CoE – which, despite being funded by us all, has the most discriminatory entrance process in the UK biased to the children of CoE supporters regardless of where they reside. I have polled the opinion of our current MP who is supportive of the status quo – she is probably minding her ps and qs due to Michael Gove’s view on the matter – and stands to lose votes as a consequence; as if the Tory dissembling over Heathrow weren’t enough to lose her the seat anyway! I would be interested to understand your view on this issue as it seems ridiculous that in our modern times children are discriminated against by virtue of their parent’s beliefs – it’s all so mediaeval.
Please get in touch to discuss. Thanks.
