Happened to catch the first performance of One Turbulent Ambassador at the Lyric Hammersmith the other night. It is a dramatisation of the life events of our one-time man in Tashkent Craig Murray, who after getting a top first at Dundee University and unprecdented scores in his civil service exams went off message in his diplomatic posting in Uzbekistan for exposing government torture conducted there and running off with a lapdancer half his age (his now wife). You couldn’t make it up. A Daily Mail expose of him at the time David Tennant played Murray in a BBC radio play is here. Full story behind the current one is here by the whizzkid Cambridge academic and sometime sports-reporter Scott Anthony. Catch it if you can, it’s actually a freebie so well worth the price of admission.
