Interesting debate here at the blog of Ian Bone who is considering standing in the by-election that will be held now that Alan Keen MP has passed away. Bone is best known for editing Class War – here he can be seen being interviewed by a young Jonathan Ross. Apparently the Heston and Feltham seat (which includes the infamous young offenders institution) has a strong anarchist tradition. In recent years the Keens (neighbouring Brentford MP Ann, his spouse once came to our house on a ministerial visit with others) became best known for expenses claims but apparently Alan was well loved in the Indian community and like Gerald Kaufman in Manchester Gorton had an indefatigable capacity to attend Asian weddings.

Sky News (based in Isleworth which borders the constituency) has the following profile, considering it to be safe Labour although it was Tory as recently as 1992 when Keen snatched it away. Much retweeted has been the news that harrier of the Murdochs, Tom Watson will be Labour’s minder. In neighbouring Southall the BNP have not stood for years but commenters to Bone’s blog reckon they’ll be a dead cert for a candidacy in F and H. Another Tony Litt type Conservative candidate would be a disaster for Cameron but in by-elections strange things can happen…
