Very sad to see that the copycat violence spread to Manchester yesterday where Liam Gallagher’s clothing boutique suffered looting. Gallagher set it up in the city centre of his home town only for this to happen. The title was nicked from a Jam song. He and his brother have boasted about their childhood theiving days but he should like Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney issue a strong statement against these actions. Ferdinand has tweeted: “I grew up on a council estate + know what its like to want things you can’t have. I then worked to become successful + rich. Fact.”

The picture below demonstrates community resistance in Southall, 3 miles away from yesterday’s pictures and very different in character and demography but within the same borough. 300+ Sikhs can’t be wrong as Elvis might have put it. The Independent report is here
