Photoshopping/ airbrushing are all the rage in the new media age. Remember James Purnell who’s no-show was covered up with a digital replacement or the Fords ad where the reverse of blacking up happened – white faces replaced brown ones? It was later repeated with Microsoft where a hand too was altered. The Ealing Gazette seems to have disinterred an old one from from the Daily Mail only today.
My faves though are those with David Cameron. You’ll have seen those “we can’t go on like this” ones and “I’ve Never Voted Tory But…” complete with widgets. Here he is in a mock-up of the “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” Smiths single cover replacing Viv Nicholson, early pools millionaire who went from rags to rags via riches after vowing to “spend, spend, spend”. Suits the austerity cuts well in my opinion.
