Today is the anniversary of the day Lehman Brothers went into administration: many unhappy returns as it was this single event that proved to be the trigger that turned what was a credit crunch into what is widely recognised to be the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 30s. Now Political Scrapbook has a scoop on how the men at the top of the House of Lehman were bankrolling Tories in the House of Commons before it all went belly up. Their contributions to George Osborne’s private office, inter alia rack up to the best part of a quarter of a million quid. Furthermore they didn’t want us to know: disclosure only took place on the orders of the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner – all this in an age where everyone bangs on about transparency.

Further proof, if proof were needed that this lot with their dodgy dealings cannot be trusted with power.
