UPDATE: BY THE POWER OF HAIRMIXER.COM AND JOHN ANGLISS HERE IS THE BULLINGDON ERA CAM/MORRISSEY LOVECHILD

There is a large if under-acknowledged body of hip hop music that originates from outside the US. It’s often a means of expression by European kids of migrant origins as in France which is the second market for hip-hop world-wide – sales figures boosted by French language rap.

In Germany too there has been for some years a healthy home-grown hip-hop scene little of which is known of outside. The Independent today has a rare UK mention of it but their story is a bit embarassing. The paper reports that one of its leading lights Massiv has apparently faked his own shooting to gain street cred.

Until two years ago the singer, who has convictions for drug dealing and threatening people with knives, was living in a one-room flat with his parents and sister in the provincial townof Pirmasens in the Rhineland-Palatinate. He persuaded his family to move to Berlin and began a career as a rap singer modelling himself on the American rap star 50 Cent, who boasts in his songs about being shot and wounded.

Not funny, not clever, not big and not impressing anyone I’m afraid.

In further pop-tastic news it’s reported on Kevin Maguire’s blog  that Hazel Blears masterminded last week’s campaign to stop David Cameron recreating the Queen is Dead cover-shot whereby The Tory toff was hounded by protesters waving placards saying “Oi! Dave – Eton Lads’ is 300 miles” and “Salford lads not Eton snobs”.

Cameron has vowed to get himself snapped outside Salford lad’s club if it kills him. They could always photoshop those tasteful Bullingdon pics.
