Have just got wind of this 2 day event to mark the “birthday” of Guantameno Bay: illegal detention centre with appalling disregard for human rights that still exists 6 years after its appearance. Get yourself down there at some point if you can.

AMNESTY RECREATES GUANTANAMO CELL WITH GUARDS AND GUARD DOGS OUTSIDE US EMBASSY TO MARK SIXTH ANNIVERSARY OF ILLEGAL DETENTION CENTRE
Friday 11 January is the sixth anniversary of US detentions at Guantanamo Bay and Amnesty International will be marking it with a series of media events in London (and around the world) as part of its campaign to close the camp.
From 5.30pm on Thursday 10 January, Amnesty will install its ‘Guantanamo Cell’ outside the US embassy, Grosvenor Square – a double cage, build to the exact dimensions of a cell at Guantanamo Bay and illuminated by powerful lighting. All through the night, Amnesty supporters and spokespeople in orange boiler suits will hold a vigil in the cage.
At 10.30am on Friday 11 January they will be joined by hundreds of protesters, all dressed as Guantanamo inmates, together with ‘US camp guards’ (played by Amnesty activists) – with real guard dogs – who will shout orders to the ‘detainees’, forcing them to assume actual stress positions used at Guantanamo Bay and bundling them in and out of the cell.
Spokespeople – including former Guantanamo detainee Moazzam Begg and key MPs will be present.
