No it’s not a flashback from 1992 but the news that the daughter-in-law of Neil and Glenys and head honcho of the Danish Socialist Party is apparently favourite in their forthcoming general election. According to the Sunday Times:

Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the 40-year-old leader of the opposition Social Democrats, is married to Kinnock’s son Stephen. She has also won the enthusiastic backing of Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair’s former spin doctor.

The Kinnocks were residents of the ward of Ealing Southall that I now live in for many years. Stephen was the year above me at university but I didn’t know him and he was not active in Labour students. There were often Tory taunts that Glenys was the power behind the throne while Neil was Labour leader and before Glenys herself became an MEP, with Edwina Currie being the most vociferous proponent. I always felt that it was the expectation that spouses should be seen and not heard. Is this however another chance for allegations of Mrs K wearing the trousers?
