After the Cull…

Quite a few posts around about BGB selection and shortlist like this here , this one that bigs me up and elsewhere this . Candidate Ayub from Newham has blogged it too – not to be confused with his namesake, this dishy fella – also one Ayub Ali. Anyway it’s all done and dusted: from a start point of 60-odd, the final three women are Rushanara Ali, Shiria Khatun and my (good) self. With one of the only 4 nominated female candidates pulling out the other week, all us remaining gals made the 3+3 shortlist. Contrary to popular rumour the ex-member turned Respect who’s also recieved attention from bloggers had none. The blokes are Lutfor Rahman, John Biggs and Helal Abbas. 5 out of 6 post-cull candidates are of Bangladeshi origin. Will be interesting to see what the result throws up. The big hustings is on 26th and then a polling day on Saturday 28th.

  1. I’ve blogged this HERE. Not stuck anything in the post yet though …. doh. A mention too at Luke’s – he supporting Biggsy but praise too for La Roopa.

  2. Luke’s alter ego’s also blogged it – needless to say with hilarious consequences. See http://lukeakehurstsblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/bethnal-green-shortlist.html
Has also been on Labour Home – all link to me but you’re the first comment!

  3. Apa,

few things i want to know,

How do you identify with the deshi and non deshi communities of BG and Bow?

Why that constituency? are the deshis ‘easy’?

From what you know now what would you do as an mp to improve peoples live?

What is your stance on the moral degeneration of deshi youth and the pimping and prostitution in the area?

  4. Thanks Rupa for the comment. Although it’d be great to hear your answers to the above. I eagerly await!

And what does Lutfor Rahman do?

  5. Now, now “gal”. I expect better of one such as yourself, with a decent education. “I” before “E” except after “C”.

  6. Interesting to see see much interest in what is an internal Labour party selection. I agree with you Fugstar that whoever wins will have to appeal to much wider folk than simply Bangladeshis. Of course the consituency is not “easy” nor are the lives of many deshis locally. It’s not even a Labour seat. In my opinion a Labour MP working in conjuction with a Labour government and council would have the best chance of improving people’s lives alongside a genuinely radical policy agenda. Sorry educated. Am obviously typing too fast.

  7. Your apology is accepted. Especially now that I know you are a BA (Cantab) , PhD (East London) and thus at least partially educated outside Hackney. Good spelling of “government”, but another little smack for “conjuction”, I’m afraid. Amor e beijos.

  8. Hey EOH Cambridge is practically local to East End. Have you never heard of Cambridge Heath BR? Or the M11? It’s just down the road and certainly much nearer than that Oxford place over West London way.

  9. Rupa i new they (Labour) were not gonna pick you for BGB, you were clearly the best out of all the candidates, but Labour inner circle is not gonna pick an intelligent outsider who can think for herself, they don’t want to use an elephant to kill an ant and then have you to deal with, Labour would rather lose BGB to Respect. This is the reason they picked Rushanara Ali who is a lame duck, who will do as she is told. You know it makes sense.
